    How to re-address DMX device?

    Hey!

I have ~30 DMX RGBW lights. All of them came from the factory with pre-assigned DMX channel numbers, so for example one of the lights use 1-2-3-4 channels, the other 9-10-11-12, etc.

The problem is, there are a couple lights that came with the same pre-assigned channels, so when I turn one of them on, the other turns on as well.

Is there any way to re-address these lights?

There are two common methods to setup addresses at DMX devices. (depending on the specific device)

    1. They have some physical setup methods, means that there is something on the device itself to do the setup.
Easiest and most seen way are the use of so called dip switches where with a binary scheme the address could be set.

    2. They use a RDM (Remote Device Management). Here with special master controller the DMX setup can be done remotely over the DMX bus.

So if there are no switches, buttons or whatever and a corresponding manual that explains how to setup the Device address it could get quite difficult to do so.
If it's RDM then you would need a RDM master with the capabilities to setup device addresses on client devices. You could buy such or build your own eg. be using a Arduino with DMX/RDM Shield and some Software.
Loxone was/is using some kind of RDM process to setup DMX addresses on their own DMX dimmers, but as i remember correctly this worked on their own Dimmers only but i have never gone any deeper into this as all dimmers i bought/used had device setup build in themself.

It would be easier to help if you could share the exact DMX device type that you are working with. Maybe someone already solved the problem.

      Thanks!

It's definitely RDM. It uses some kind of eldoLED driver, and its manual says it could be re-addressed via RDM, recommending Pharos DMX controller for example. I don't really want to spend that kind of money on it just to set new addresses for a couple lights.

Would be cool if there was some kind of a cheap/easy method where I plug in the light, give it some power, re-address and that's it.
