Does this unit have a temperature sensor in it? Can it be used behind standard lighting switches?

Are there any switches on the market that will display room temp / setpoint on them?

    Thanks.

dont know about the nano di tree, but many knx buttons/switches have a display that can show temperature and/or setpoint, eg MDT Gastaster II which can be configured to work with loxone easily

Thats great...just wondering how easy to configure compared to a loxone switch (which auto detects /autoconfigures)?

Also, do these switches (or any other you know of) have temperature probes built in also (like the loxone ones)?

      Thanks.

MDT Glastaster II is KNX, therefore an additional software, the ETS, is required to configure KNX devices. Most KNX switches also have models with integrated temperature sensors.

If you don't like to integrate the KNX bus, you can alternatively use 1-Wire temperature sensors. The are small like a transistor and fit behind every switch. 1-Wire requires the 1-Wire Extension, and 2 or better 3 cables for it's bus. The are very exact as they digitally submit the result via the bus.

knx devices arent as simple to integrate as loxones own stuff, but worth the effort in my opinion, as switches with displays, messages, icons, leds etc are far easier to use than an unlabeled loxnoe one

          there are 2 steps:
configuring the knx device using ETS software (not very obvious but once you get the hang of it not too difficult)

configuring loxone by manually creating knx sensors (such as buttons, temperature sensors, humidity sensors etc) and knx actuators (switches, dimmers and outputs such as sending the setpoint out to the knx switch to be displayed)

Hi Duncan, its been a while since i posted here, but just coming back to this and would like to replace my loxone switches with KNX switches that have room temperature and setpoint displayed. I managed to configure the Loxone equipment myself fairly easily....is it a lot harder to integrate the KNX switches, create custom sensors / blocks or whatever in Loxone for them? How would i do this? Do i need a KNX extension to do this / how would i wire it up? Thanks.

To integrate KNX to Loxone, the Miniserver Gen. 1 has the KNX interface on board.

Whereas the Miniserver Gen. 2 requires the KNX Extension, AND a KNX interface to program the KNX devices (like https://www.mdt.de/EN_IP_Interface_Router.html).

For both setups, it requires a KNX power supply with integrated choke, or a KNX choke device that is connected to your 24V power supply of your Miniserver, like https://new.abb.com/products/2CDG110029R0011/dr-s4-1

To program KNX devices, it requires the ETS software, that is free for very small setups (ETS Demo, https://www.knx.org/knx-en/for-profe...-professional/), but enough to setup the switches to talk to Loxone.
I recommend to see a tutorial video. or website to understand how KNX works as overview and how to program devices.

In ETS you can program endpoints of each device (sensors, buttons, display settings,...) with group addresses. These group addresses can be created in Loxone as sensors and actors, and can be read and written by Loxone logic.

So these group addresses always need to be configured via ETS on the devices, and in Loxone to interact together.

In LoxWiki there are some articles about KNX and MDT Glastaster but all in German, but Google Translate may help to better understand how things have to be set up.

You should watch some KNX tutorials, that helps to understand KNX, as it follows a different approach (decentralised) as Loxone (centralised Single-Point-Of-Failure) does.

              Regards, Christian

Thanks for this information, i have the Gen 1 server, so will buy a KNX choke device / Switch and download the ETS SW to see if i can set it all up. Thanks again, happy new year....
